Statue of the God Vid

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Statue of the God Vid, or Vidovo, at the Ravnište Site in the Village of Mokra near Bela Palanka, is a project by renowned Serbian journalist Dragan Jovanović.[1] The project aims to raise awareness of the old Serbian beliefs and traditions.

Erection of the Statue

[edit]

On June 25, 2011, the day of the statue's erection, Jovanović stated:

"We must not renounce our old gods, whose supreme god is Vid, because they are our spiritual roots and the foundation of our Serbian identity."[2]

Since the day of the statue's erection, an annual gathering called "Vid's Academy" has been organized near the statue, featuring various lectures, mainly on the preservation of pre-Christian cultural heritage.[3][4]
